Preparing for Iceland

The travel side of me is at it again. I leave for Iceland tomorrow. You might be wondering why Iceland?! Originally I was planning on traveling alone and looked up safe places to travel alone and Iceland was one of the top choices. When I started planning a friend of mine said she wanted to come too. Just a couple weeks ago I read that Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world. I may not want to come back.

Flight- So we went through a travel agent to book our trip including flight, hotel, and tours. We didn’t choose our airline but we are going through WOW air. Yeah-sounds a little sketchy to me too. Wow air offers cheap flights to Europe and Iceland. The only downfall is the extra fees which make you wonder if a cheaper flight is worth it. Imagine a typical “suitcase” style carry on- that’s TOO big for a carry on with wow air and you have to pay an additional fee. Right now I have what I need for the trip in a backpack(acceptable carry on size) and a SMALL purse(when you can typically get away with something bigger for a personal item) I’m just going to fork over the $100 and pay to check on a bag that way I can pack a few extra things and have room to buy things.

Packing- Luckily it’s summertime so there’s no need for a big coat and gloves but it’s still a mystery as to what I should actually wear in Iceland. I’ve been stalking locations on Instagram and some people are wearing hats and kind of heavy coats. I don’t even wear a hat in the winter here so we shall see. I have mostly long pant/sleeved workout clothes packed.

Money- 1 Iceland krona is equivalent to 85 cents. Did you know that your bank can order foreign money for you?! I didn’t know this until this year. For my bank, TD I got 200 dollars of Icelandic money and was only charged a 7.50 service fee.

Alright so expect to hear a lot more about Iceland in the days to come!
